Love actually?

love-actually

I remember being a hopeless romantic who believed ‘love conquers all’ and love was the destination to my journey called life. Love was always the ultimate goal, and the necessity too. Be it that special someone, or family, or friends- love was too big to let anything else come in the way. I was so far from reality, right? I had also been told a few times that I live in a dreamland, and life is not what I think it is. To use exact words, it was called living in a bubble. And eventually, the bubble did break.

I feel very differently now. I don't believe as much, I don't have the same blind faith, I try to keep myself at a safe distance from hurt, and I prepare myself for the worst. Maybe that's what growing up does to you. It shows you the more real but ugly side of love.

But, we ourselves are a part of the problem here. We romanticize love so much, we make it seem so perfect. And we just forget that the lovers are humans- imperfect creatures, stitched together with flaws. So, how can love stay away from their imperfections? I think we do that because it makes us feel good. Love has been said to have a similar effect like drugs on our brain, and we keep feeding our feelings until one day we realize we have a problem. We ourselves set love up for failure by doing this. We set the bar too high and then we turn bitter when things turn out differently.
Shouldn’t we be getting better, instead of bitter?

Yes, love is beautiful. It makes the journey worthwhile. It brings so much joy and happiness. But, don't lose yourself in loving someone- because true love won't do that to you. It's okay to use your mind in love, because that's gonna protect your heart. Real love is not easy. Unlike the movie Love actually, it isn't all sunshine and smiles, it's more like a sine wave- for all the good days, there are bad days too. Just trust your instinct- it's usually right in guiding you. You'll know when the love is true and worth all the effort.

  1. Beautifully written and well-said. Today is my second wedding anniversary, and I'm also keeping in mind that love isn't always pretty. Sometimes it's rough and tough and you have to just roll with it. But that's what makes it beautiful and worth the while.

  2. Such a lovely post. I agree with you, love is not perfect and will never be, but still, love is beautiful and sometimes it's worth the effort :)

  3. So true. I think it takes a while to discover what love really is. I was with a guy who I thought I loved but it was too much work. Love is work but there are things that should be easy.

  10. Lovely post, I completely agree! Love is beautiful and so worth the while but definitely over-romanticised within society which can cause a lot of angst for some people!

A day in San Francisco — Memorial Day

If you have followed my blog for sometime, you probably know about my big move across coast. It's been a few months being a Cali resident, but I haven't gotten out as much as I would have liked.  Maybe once we move to a place, it kinda loses the tourist charm that it has when we visit for a weekend. Don't you think? I decided to make this right and this Memorial Day weekend, I spent my first Touristy day in San Francisco. Like anything else, I made a long list of places to see, and spread it across three days based on distance proximity. Yes, it was a whole weekend plan but life get in way and hence it ended up being just a day trip. The day started with a little detour at Bay Trail, near Shoreline Park, followed by a quick brunch at Crepe Vine and a beautiful long drive to the city. The Painting Ladies at Alamo Square was our first stop. These are basically just houses with a Victorian architecture and painted with three or more colors. The whole area l

What if ... ?

What if — an agonizing feeling that no one is spared from.  We all find ourselves in situations where we look back and think about things we  have done, things we should have done, things we should not have done, or things we should have done differently. They are not necessarily regrets, but more of questioning and second-guessing the choices we have made. I for one get this feeling a lot, and I find myself thinking about how life could have been if my choices would have been different.  What if I studied harder in school:   I would have gotten into a better college with more opportunities, which means better job and satisfaction. But, who can guarantee that would have happened- so I'd rather be happy about the other things I did and not just study all the time. What if I stayed at my old job:  I would have gotten to be roommates with my best friend for a much longer time, and would have definitely enjoyed more and I wouldn’t be stressed because of studying, assi
